This course is an introduction to the basics of Gentle Teaching and is taught by Tracy Mauk, Gentle Teaching Master Mentor, with assistance from local mentors.
Gentle Teaching is based on a psychology of human interdependence. During the interactive training caregivers are asked to look at themselves and their spirit of gentleness. The training exercises assist the caregiver in identifying ways to express warmth and unconditional love toward the people in their lives, especially those supported who are the most disenfranchised from family and community life. Outcomes of this training are an understanding of and ability to teach others to feel safe, loved, loving and engaged through their own presence, words, touch and eyes; and to understand the concepts of community, companionship and connectedness.
Michigan
This seminar is designed to provide individuals with a basic overview of a Culture of Gentleness, what it is, and what it isn’t.
An introduction to the Central Purpose and the Six Elements will be provided. This opportunity would be ideal for board members, administrators, and others who do not provide direct service but have an interest in that area.
This seminar can be conducted in ninety (90) minutes, half day, or full day increments depending upon the depth of the information desired.
This service may also be the opportunity to meet with administrative staff and direct caregivers as a follow-up to a consultation. During this session, a basic overview of a Culture of Gentleness will be provided in relation to the individual(s) served.
This two (2) day training is designed for direct care-givers and first line supervisors (25-40 people per class). It teaches the basics of providing positive supports and the important role of a gentle caregiver.
This training is also a good introduction for managers, support coordinators, clinical staff and those identified as training leaders. It is a building block for providers to conduct their own internal training.
Attendance on both days is required to receive training certificate.

This six (6) hour training will focus on 6 key elements for developing positive and healthy relationships with children, family members, and those who assist us in supporting our children.
At the heart of any well run program is a well prepared and supportive leader. Effective leaders know that relationship is the key to building successful teams. These team relationships impact the health of the team, which impacts the quality of care provided. The feeling of connectedness as a team makes it possible for caregivers to build sustaining relationships with the individuals they serve and their circles of support.
This six (6) hour training is designed to help support organizational leaders and supervisors who desire to create Cultures of Gentleness, not only for the individuals they serve, but for the teams they manage. This training will provide you with concrete tools and structure to increase confidence and leadership skills.
This two (2) hour training course prepares one for the role of Mentor in a Culture of Gentleness Practicum.
This training is facilitated via GoToMeeting by one of our trainers. Unlike most online trainings, this is considered to be a synchronous online training which allows for interaction between learners and with the facilitator.
The prerequisite for this class includes having a Culture of Gentleness Practicum within the last three years. This training is also a prerequisite for both certifications through the Center.
Michigan
The Train the Trainer session is designed for individuals who are interested in certification to train the two day, “Working with People” training for their organization.
This three (3) day training is provided at the Oakland County (Michigan) training location only.
This class has a maximum capacity of 12.
This session is designed for individuals who have completed the following prerequisite training:
Additional certification requirements include co-teaching your initial Working with People training with a certified trainer. You should contact Easterseals | MORC prior to your initial training to arrange your co-teaching experience.
Certification will be given for two (2) years.
In order to be re-certified, the trainer will have to conduct a minimum of three training sessions per year and submit training rosters to the Center for Positive Living Supports. Fidelity will be assured through random observations by CPLS staff.
